Compatibility Checklist

Relax. We'll talk through this in plain words — no textbook voice.

Checking compatibility is your PC build's seatbelt. Skip it, and you can end up with parts that are all individually great but simply won't work together.

  • The CPU socket must match the motherboard socket.
  • The motherboard chipset must support the CPU generation. Check whether a BIOS update might be needed.
  • Choose a RAM type — DDR4 or DDR5 — that matches your motherboard.
  • Check RAM capacity/speed against the motherboard's QVL or spec sheet.
  • The case must support your motherboard's form factor.
  • The GPU's length and thickness must fit inside the case.
  • The PSU needs enough wattage and the right GPU power connectors.
  • The CPU cooler must support your CPU socket and fit the case's height/radiator mounts.
  • The M.2 SSD must match the motherboard's M.2 slot/PCIe generation. A SATA drive needs a SATA port and cable.
  • Check that the monitor's HDMI/DisplayPort matches your GPU's output.
  • Check operating system support, driver availability, and Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth support.

Practical Tip: Before you buy, write out your full parts list in one place and check socket, RAM type, case clearance, and PSU connectors line by line. A tool like PCPartPicker can help, but still double-check local market model variations yourself.

Run the compatibility checklist "before you buy," not after you've already started the build. Find out something doesn't fit after you've bought it, and it stops being a tutorial and turns into a return/refund saga.
